Optical identifications of ∼ 4000 radio sources at the 1 mJy level
We present an analysis of the properties of optical counterparts of radio sources down to 1 mJy. Optical identifications have been obtained by matching together objects from the APM and FIRST surveys over the region 148.13◦ ∼ < RA(2000) ∼ < 218.13◦, −2.77◦ ∼ Dec ∼ 2.25 ◦. Selecting radio sources down to 1 mJy, and adopting a uniform optical limit of bJ = 21.5 we find 3176 have a counterpart in ...
متن کاملOptical identifications of faint radio sources 1 1997
Deep imaging and spectroscopy have been carried out for optical counterparts of a sample of 68 faint radio sources (S > 0.2 mJy) in the “Marano Field”. About 60% of the sources have been optically identified on deep CCD exposures (limit R ' 24.0) or ESO 3.6–m plates (limit bJ ' 22.5). Thirty–four spectra (50% of the total radio sample) were obtained with the ESO 3.6–m telescope and 30 redshifts...
متن کاملFaint Radio Sources in the Noao Boötes Field: Vlba Imaging and Optical Identifications
As a step toward investigating the parsec-scale properties of faint extragalactic radio sources, the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) was used at 5.0 GHz to obtain phase-referenced images of 76 sources in the NOAOBoötes field. These 76 sources were selected from the Faint Images of the Radio Sky at Twenty cm (FIRST) catalog to have peak flux densities above 10 mJy at 500 resolution and deconvolv...
متن کاملCENSORS: A Combined EIS-NVSS Survey Of Radio Sources. I. Sample definition, radio data and optical identifications
A new sample of radio sources, with the designated name CENSORS (A Combined EISNVSS Survey Of Radio Sources), has been defined by combining the NRAO VLA Sky Survey (NVSS) at 1.4 GHz with the ESO Imaging Survey (EIS) Patch D, a 3 by 2 degree region of sky centred at 09 51 36.0, −21 00 00 (J2000). New radio observations of 199 NVSS radio sources with NVSS flux densities S1.4 GHz > 7.8 mJy are pre...
متن کاملUltra Steep Spectrum radio sources in the Lockman Hole: SERVS identifications and redshift distribution at the faintest radio fluxes
Ultra Steep Spectrum (USS) radio sources have been successfully used to select powerful radio sources at high redshifts (z & 2). Typically restricted to large-sky surveys and relatively bright radio flux densities, it has gradually become possible to extend the USS search to sub-mJy levels, thanks to the recent appearance of sensitive low-frequency radio facilities. Here a first detailed analys...
